An Article on Aboriginal Economic Development Arizona Apache Tribe, located 20 miles Northeast of Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 40 square mile reserve is home to 600 + community members and another 300+ who live off the reservation, a community comparable in size to one of the First Nations in Nova Scotia. The Arizona group operates 12 businesses and employs 30,000 people. It generates an average $10 million dollars a day in revenue. All 12 members of its council are MBA graduates. The tribe operates a casino, two hotel resorts, an RV resort, a commercial citrus farm, a construction materials firm, a gas bar and a convenience store, two golf cources and more. The Arizona tribe pays each of its members $50,000 a year. Funds payable to children under 18 are held in trust until they reach 18. Now here's the kicker:

Every child is expected to attend and graduate from university or post-secondary institution of learning. Any child who misses classes or drops out of school before graduation is fined $350.00 per day until he/she returns to school. They have a graduation rate of 94%.  ( Courtesy of MTT-May 19, 2007 ( W.E. ( Bill) Belliveau)

Some prominent Mi'kmaw believe the injustice was done to the mi'kmaq who is looking for work, or just gave up after years and years of disappointments looking for work. When our Governments has to increased immigration numbers to fill jobs within Nova Scotia and other provinces. quote "It just not seem right when I see our own people unemployed when foreigners are working around you" unquote

An Article from Financial Post-May 13, 2011- Diane Francis

In 2007 a solution was proposed ( Specific Claims backlog). The establishment of the Specific Claims Tribunal, to expedite claims by allowing First Nations to choose to direct their claims to a tribunal, comprised of six judges, for faster, binding settlements. Currently, the 860 land claims are dealt with at a rate of 10 per year. At this rate, we should catch up by year 2096.

But, we have a plan- Economic and Social development should be the key. let's talk.
